Microsoft Lumia 830 review: A midrange phone with few regrets - stricklandwhousen
Up to now, the Nokia Lumia Icon has topped the list of my favorite Windows Phones. But if you invest $99 to buy the new Microsoft Nokia Lumia 830 via AT&A;T, you'll be handed a thinner, lighter phone that's equally robust, which you may regular prefer to the older model.
My one disappointment is that the spherical version of the headphone that Microsoft loaned me did not include some of the best features of Lumia Blue jean, the firmware update that debuts on the 830 and quasi phones. And on paper, the 830 is a pace down from the Icon in display quality and camera solvent.
Still, the 830 is a quality midrange phone with an upgrade way to both of Denim, backed by solid operation under the hood. And this is Microsoft's newfound scheme: Attack the midrange and low conclusion to increase its grocery store share, with decent phones for everyday use. And if you act fast, you'll get a free Fitbit, excessively.

I wasn't as affected with the Lumia 830's low-light shots as I was with the Icon's, or the HTC One (M8)'s, whose sensor was specifically designed for that purpose. I detected a hazing effect when shot into a sunset that I didn't with the different phones, and low-growing-light images were somewhat noisy. The 830 has optical image stabilisation, however, which does help steady the television camera's Lens when taking those longer-photograph shots. That helps the camera unceasingly stabilis itself when shooting video, too, at its utmost resolution of 1080p.

One of the most desirable elements with Denim, in my mind, are the slew of improvements that bequeath accompany the Lumia Camera app: faster shot-to-stroke performance, auto HDR, dynamic flash, and more. Additional camera-precise apps include Bing Vision, Lumia Cinemagraph, Lumia Cyclorama, and Lumia Refocus. The latter three didn't come with the phone, but I could download them from the Store.
Not the Denim phone you mightiness follow expecting
As I mentioned before, the Lumia 830does let in Denim, only not the fun stuff. Lumia Camera has been left out. And the other feature I'd like to endeavour out, Cortana's active listening style, will not appear on the Lumia 830 (just will on the Ikon, the 930, and the 1520.) Cortana, Microsoft's extremity assistant, normally requires a keypress to gun trigger it. When the feature goes last the other phones, you'll be able to say "Hey, Cortana!" and ask out her to execute your bidding.
